CHAPTER 1

- Nabokov writes about time as something linear, wishing to be able to jump between future and past.

- studying the relationship between future, present and past - present being momentary, past being the only tangible form of time and future being basically nonexistent ‘just a figure of speech’

- studying objects relationship to time - Transparent things, through which the past shines

- A thin veneer of immediate reality is spread over natural and artificial matter, and whoever wishes to remain in the now, with the now, on the now, should please not break its tension film.

CHAPTER 2

- Studies the affect of time and our memories we have of places - remembering a place as something different due to our memories and experiences in them - these experiences may change our perception of a place in a positive and a negative manner

- losing all connections but our memories to a place or thing - Monsieur Kronig "So there is nobody who might remember me?”- feeling attaches to something yet not having any palpable connection

CHAPTER 3

- studies the origin and history of an object - encourages reader to observe and learn about the items surrounding them

- draws contrast between the way we view high and low quality items and products
